# 11 AUSTRIAN AMBASADOR 5/1

# 1 HEAVEN SENT HARDY 20/1

# 12 I'M A MAN OF MEANS 3/1

I favor AUSTRIAN AMBASADOR here. Has performed quite well recently in sprint races, posting a nifty 60 avg Equibase Speed Figure. Perez has a win percent of 21 over the last 30 days. He should be given consideration given the very strong speed figs. HEAVEN SENT HARDY - Will probably compete admirably in the pace contest which bodes well with this group. I'M A MAN OF MEANS - Harris has him trained strongly to break quickly out of the starting gate. Ran a sharp last race.

#4 HYPERBARIC

#9 WORLDLY

#4 HYPERBARIC is both the overall speed and pace profile leader in this stakes field today racing at, or about, 8½ furlongs on the turf, and has hit the board in each of his last five starts, with four of those efforts, including a win in his last race qualifying as "POWER RUNS." #3 CANTEEN , an 8-1 shot, has turned in a quartet of "POWER RUNS" in his last five starts, winning in his 3rd race back. Jockey Rafael Bejarano and Trainer Neil Drysdale send him to the post today ... they've hit the board with an impressive 72% of their entries saddled as a team to date.

#6 SKIP THE DEPOSIT (ML=2/1)

SKIP THE DEPOSIT - Last race August 6th was pretty strong for a $40,000 Maiden Claiming race so this filly's race wasn't all that bad. Quite frequently, I play a maiden that finished runner-up easily ahead of the third place finisher in her last effort. This racer coming off a good race in the last month is a contender in my opinion. This filly garnered a nice fig of 80 in her last race. That speed figure should be high enough to win this time.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 MORE THAN THUNDER (ML=9/5), #5 LITTLE MISS JULIEN (ML=3/1), #1 TIFFANY ROCK (ML=4/1),

MORE THAN THUNDER - This filly hasn't had any recent good fortune in short distance races. Not easy to invest in her in this contest. Finished seventh last time. Would have to get better to finish in the money in today's event. Don't think this runner will do much running in today's event. That last rating was mediocre when compared with today's Equibase class figure. LITTLE MISS JULIEN - Not easy to support any vulnerable equine in a sprint affair if she hasn't hit the board in a sprint in the last sixty days. Doubtful that this horse will finish better than she did last time when finishing seventh. TIFFANY ROCK - The fig last race out doesn't fit very well in this race when I look at the class rating of today's affair. Mark this thoroughbred as a likely underlay.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:

Have to go with #6 SKIP THE DEPOSIT on the win end if we get at least 1/1 odds

The Walker Group Picks

# 7 DISCERNMENT 8/1

# 1 HOT TALK 8/1

# 3 CIDE SHOW JOE 4/1

I think DISCERNMENT is a respectable pick and is a solid value bet given the line at 8/1. Has run well when moving a dirt sprint race. Will probably compete quite well in the early pace battle which bodes well with this field. Posted a very good speed figure last time out. HOT TALK - Has been running soundly lately and will most likely be close to the front end early on. Have to consider solely on class, with some of the most respectable class figures of this group. CIDE SHOW JOE - No strangers to the winner's circle, Wise and Beauregard should have this gelding breaking away from the field. This rider and handler team has produced some solid ROI numbers at this track.

RACE #9 - SARATOGA RACE COURSE - 5:18 PM EASTERN POST

The Albany Stakes

9.0 FURLONGS DIRT THREE YEAR OLDS STAKES $150,000.00 PURSE

#6 TIN CUP CHALICE
#3 ALMIGHTY SILVER
#2 WRITINGONTHEWALL
#5 ICABAD CRANE

For you folks who enjoy a little racing trivia to accompany your handicapping efforts today ... The Albany Stakesis fittingly named after the capital of New York State, as it is a race in which three year old New York bred horses compete. The city of Albany is located in Albany County, which was named in honor of the Duke of York and Albany, who later became King James II of England. The Albany Stakes is the third and final leg of the BIG APPLE TRIPLE, a series of three races for New York-bred three-year-olds, which also includes the Mike Lee Handicap at Belmont Park and the Finger Lakes Derby at Finger Lakes. The series was inaugurated in 1999. THERE IS A BONUS OF $250,000 FOR ANY HORSE THAN CAN SWEEP THE 2001 SERIES. John J. Fitzgerald, born in 1893, was a horse racing writer for The Morning Telegraph in the 1920s and was the first person to popularize the term "The Big Apple." While on assignment in New Orleans, Fitzgerald overheard African-American stablehands refer to New York City racecourses as "The Big Apple." He loved the term so much that he named his racing column "Around the Big Apple." The title to the column became synonymous with the New York City racing scene. In this year's edition, the 31st running of this stakes event, #6 TIN CUP CHALICE is both the overall speed and pace profile leader, and has won 5 straight, including back-to-back-to-back "POWER RUN WINS" in his last three starts. Jockey Pedro Rodriguez and Trainer Michael Lecesse send him to the post for the "Wednesday Feature" today ... they've hit the board with 58% of their entries saddled as a team to date. #3 ALMIGHTY SILVER, a 6-1 shot, comes off a "POWER RUN PLACE" finish in his last start, in a race which was contested at today's TrackMaster PLUS Class Level of 103.

Saratoga - Race #2 - Post: 1:33pm

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

Choice Plays:

#10 GET STORMY (ML=6/1)
#3 MEMORIZED (ML=8/1)
#1 HERR MOZART (ML=3/1)
#8 SNEAK PEEK (ML=4/1)

GET STORMY - It's a big plus that this first time starter has been working over the same track that he makes his debut at today. Based on works, I look for this colt to run a big race. Generally speaking, horses on Lasix for the 1st time should be considered. That's what we have here. MEMORIZED - Horses out of the barn of Tagg have been great on the grass. I'd expect a good performance. Tagg is giving this one Lasix for the first time. Nice move. HERR MOZART - I like that this first-timer has been working over the Saratoga oval and makes his debut here today. Mott adds Lasix to this one today. I'd look for a marked improvement. SNEAK PEEK - Have to like the early speed on this one. No one else may even be close. Owns the highest Equibase speed fig on the turf at this distance. Jockey jumped on this colt's back for the first attempt on August 4th. Should know the horse even better in today's contest. This colt has the top turf figure in his last race. It doesn't take a college grad like The Brain to figure this here horse has a good chance.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1A GENTLEMAN JETER (ML=3/1), #5 UMBRA (ML=7/2), #13 KEEPING THE HONOR (ML=5/1),

GENTLEMAN JETER - Finished sixth last time. Would have to improve to hit the board in today's race. When checking today's class rating, he will have to register a better speed rating than in the last race to vie in this turf route. UMBRA - Don't think that this colt has value at 7/2 this time around. KEEPING THE HONOR - This horse hasn't shown too much in the last couple events.
